From Chapter 5: On the Surface

The Layered Image Editor (LIE) is an additional feature in the Surfaces Editor which allows a user to work with layers adding details over the underlying textures. For example you can use the LIE to add beauty spots, freckles or tattoos to your characters or a logo to clothing.

The LIE is accessed through the Diffuse Channel of the Surfaces Pane using the drop down box. You can add a new layer or mask and then browse to the file you want to place on the layer.

Tip: To add an image to a layer it should be on a transparent background and set at 72 dpi. For some users when using the LIE, on adding images in a higher resolution they may experience long hangs or software crashes.
