In recent months the store RuntimeDNA merged with DAZ3D with many of the RDNA artists moving to DAZ3D along with their old and new products. Good news for DAZ Studio users as there have been some impressive new products available made available. With the writing of my new book, Jump into Vue, I had little time to play in DAZ Studio, though I was buying …. Now that I'm back working in DS I've been testing out some of the products.
One of the Premier Artists now at DAZ3D is Colm Jackson. Colm Jackson is a world-renowned photographer who originally did portrait photography, including capturing the likes of Michael Jackson, Leonard Cohen and Jon Bon Jovi. He has since delved into landscape photography but it is his considerable portrait photography experience that is important here! Colm Jackson is a 3D content creator and the developer of Render Studio, a 3D portrait lighting system. Render Studio has evolved for different 3D software over the years including for Poser and Vue; with the most recent releases being made for DAZ Studio's Iray render engine. Check out his photography on his website.
Blow me away! I have tried many lighting systems in the past and very few that I like as much as Colm's Render Studio Iray and Monochrome Iray. It is actually very hard to get a bad render! Monochrome Iray allows the user to render in Black and White without having to postwork but also does some great colour renders. Tip: To render colour in Monochrome don't add the supplied render settings.
They are also very simple to use with backgrounds, cameras, lights and render settings supplied. All the user has to do is add their figures or props. The cameras and lights are set up for Genesis 3 figures but with very little adjustments you could render just about anything as the rendered images in this blog post show.
For Vue users, I have as yet not tried out the Render Studio version for Vue but it is a PC item and listed to PC members at only $2.99 so it might be worthwhile to give it a try. Leave a comment if you have the Vue version and let readers know how it works!
BTW I highly recommend Colm's YouTube channel for information on how to use Render Studio and he also has some additional tutorials which taught me a few things I didn't know about DAZ Studio.
The following is a list of Products used in the blog's rendered images:
